BEATRICE – A Lincoln man who was shot over the weekend during a confrontation with police in Beatrice, has died.

Beatrice Police Chief Bruce Lang says 35-year-old Bradley Allen died Tuesday afternoon, at 3:43 p.m.  Allen had been in critical, but stable condition over the weekend, following the late Saturday night incident.  He had undergone surgery at a Lincoln Hospital.

Allen was struck by multiple shots fired by a Beatrice Police Officer after Allen fled on foot from a vehicle, that earlier was involved in a high-speed chase that entered the north part of the city.  He was shot near 2nd and Ella Streets near the Gage County Museum, after police had used spike strips to flatten the tires of the pursued vehicle.

Allen had pending arrest warrants from Nebraska and Kansas.  The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the shooting and the officer involved is on administrative assignment, pending the outcome of the investigation.

Because the case now involves the death of a person in custody or in the process of being detained, a grand jury investigation will be required, by state law.
