David N. Skeens

David N. "Bubba" Skeens, of Wymore, Nebraska, passed away on April 11, 2025. He was born on July 24, 1953 in Omaha to John P. and Delores (Rippe) Skeens. He was baptized on January 1, 1954 and confirmed his Lutheran faith on June 4, 1967.He grew up in Hebron and moved to Wymore in 1982. He worked at BSDC and Mosaic in Beatrice, Rienke's in Deshler, Petersen's in DeWitt, and retired in 2013 from Landoll's in Marysville.
He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Wymore and a devoted Green Bay Packers and Jimmy Johnson (NASCAR) fan. He always wanted to be a cowboy. His hobbies included camping, fishing, bird watching and "haying". He collected coffee cups, lighters, Packer and Harley Davidson mementos. Dave was a proud member of the "Bubba Club", a group of friends who would drop everything to help someone in need. David was a beacon of kindness and inspiration, touching the lives of many with his infectious laughter, his unwavering support, and his love for life. As Charles Dickens once said, "The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again." While the pain of David's passing is profound, the joy he brought into our lives through his stories and jokes will forever remain. David was a man of many talents and interests, but his love for his family was his greatest passion. He lived his life with a contagious enthusiasm that made everyone around him feel special and loved. His spirit, his laughter, and his kindness left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy; daughters, Tekisha Skeens and Denaya Skeens; brother Johnny Skeens and wife Suzanne of Bellevue; sisters, JoAnn Wieden, Betty Scheideler and husband John of Wymore, and Ginny Bell of Fairbury; sisters-in-law, Doris Barg and husband, Larry of Pawnee City and Hazel Percival of Wilber; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Christy McMorris; sister Ruth Lautenschlager; brother, Ray Skeens; brothers-in-law, Bill Wieden, Bill Lautenschlager, and Steve Percival; mother and father-in-law, Dan and Norma Gail Heath; sister-in-law, Jackie Skeens; nephew-in-law, Larry Barg, Jr. and step nieces, Bev Strope and Kae Holz.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 18, 2025 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Wymore. Burial will be at the Blue Springs Cemetery. A family prayer service will begin at the church at 10:15 AM. The body will lie in state at the Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home in Wymore on Thursday from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the family greeting relatives and friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM, and at the church one hour prior to the service Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Beatrice Humane Society with the funeral home in charge. Casual or Green Bay Packers attire is requested at services.
