Hay bale, barn fire fought near DeWitt

The cause of the fire was under investigation

BEATRICE – Firefighters from at least three departments fought a fire in hay bales that also destroyed a barn, over the weekend.

The fire, at a farm along West Elm Road, was in the DeWitt Fire District.  Firefighters from that department along with mutual aid from the Beatrice Rural Fire Department and Pickrell Fire Department were sent to the scene.   A state fire investigator was summoned to the scene. 

Southeast Communications dispatch traffic indicated that fire units were sent to the scene at 2:16 p.m. Saturday…..to 6010 West Elm.

No other details were immediately available, but the Chief of the Beatrice Rural Department confirmed that a barn was destroyed in the fire.   Beatrice units were back in service, from the fire, at 3:43 p.m.
