BEATRICE - A collision north of Beatrice Sunday, sent one person by private vehicle for medical treatment. The accident happened near the west junction of U.S. Highway 77 and Nebraska Highway 41, at around 12:35 p.m.
Gage County Sheriff’s Officers, Cortland Fire and Clatonia Rescue were sent to the accident scene.
Authorities say a westbound 2015 Honda Accord driven by 19-year-old Zach Haefele, of Marysville, Kansas was travelling in the passing lane and drifted into the driving lane as the driver apparently fell asleep. The Accord collided with a 1996 Ford F-250 pickup pulling a stock trailer.
The truck was driven by 66-year-old Brad Frink, of Lincoln. After the collision, Haefele’s Honda rolled over several times, coming to rest on it’s top in the driving lane. Law officers say Frink pulled over and stopped on the north shoulder.
Haefele was taken to a family doctor in Marysville by his mother, while Frink and a juvenile passenger in the pickup reported no injuries.
Safety restraints were in use.
