Construction to start on Nebraska Highway 33
New paving and bridge work expected to be completed in November
BEATRICE — A Nebraska highway project east of Crete will be getting underway this month, pending allowable weather.
Nebraska Department of Transportation officials say March 21st is the planned starting date for work on Nebraska Highway 33 from Crete, east to the junction with U.S. Highway 77.
NDOT officials say Werner Construction Inc., of Hastings has the nearly $12.16 million contract, which includes milling asphalt, culvert and bridge repairs, asphalt surfacing, shoulder construction, and seeding.
Traffic will be maintained with one-lane closures using a pilot vehicle and flag personnel.
During the construction, three bridges will be reduced to one-lane traffic in phases and temporary traffic signals will be used. NDOT says the work is expected to be completed in November of this year.
Department officials also say that the Missouri River Bridge at Nebraska City is expected to fully reopen to four-lane, two-way traffic on Monday, March 7th. Work to repair the deck and joints of the bridge along with interior rehabilitation is being completed.
