FAIRBURY - Officials in Jefferson County are ready to improve roadways in the southeast Nebraska county.
The Jefferson County Commissioners, along with with Highway Superintendent Tim Farmer and county road staff, approved their one and six-year road plan in their Tuesday morning meeting. The projected cost of the six-year project is about $20-million. The one-year plan of the project is about $5.5 million, but the county has about $3-million in grant money for that.
One of the biggest parts of the project, is to redo an entire seven-mile stretch of PWF Road in eastern Jefferson County. Payment for the PWF Road redo remains in process as the Nebraska Department of Transportation supported the project, but instead of giving state money, pointed officials and staff to places to apply for grants.
In addition, officials also approved a Juvenile Services grant as well as the closing of the bridge on 569th and 724th ave in Jefferson County.
