LINCOLN, Neb. -- A stolen vehicle has been recovered after a collision in the metro area.
The Lincoln Police Department said that on January 26, a grey Mazda Tribute was left unlocked and running behind a residence.
Authorities said that the vehicle's 35-year-old owner saw a male enter the running vehicle and steal it. The Mazda was valued at approximately $1,500.
Officials said that around 11 a.m. on February 12, a woman was driving south on 48th street in her vehicle, when the stolen Mazda pulled out in front of her on J Street, causing a collision.
LPD said the male exited the driver's seat and a female exited the front passenger seat, then both ran from the scene.
Officials said officers arrived and confirmed the Mazda was the same that had been stolen on January 26.
Authorities said inside the Mazda, officers found an extensive amount of stolen tools, clothes, and personal items.
Officials said that work is still being done to identify the owners of some of the stolen items. The total value of the stolen items in the Mazda is unknown at this time.
This is an ongoing investigation and anyone with information is encouraged to call Lincoln Police or Crime Stoppers.
