LPD: auto theft leads to multiple charges

A Lincoln man is facing drug charges after a car theft.

LINCOLN, Neb. -- A Lincoln man is facing drug charges after a car theft. 

On Saturday February 5, around 7 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence in the 3700 Block of North 14 on a report of an auto theft. 

The owner had started their SUV to let it warm up and upon coming back outside found the vehicle missing. 

Then on February 8, around 7:30 p.m., investigators observed the stolen SUV to stop at the Kwik Shop. 

As the driver was exiting the vehicle, he noticed the investigators approaching to contact him then got back into the vehicle and attempted to flee. 

As he was backing up, he struck the police vehicle behind him causing minor damage to both. 

The driver, 23-year-old Ian Eastman, was then taken into custody without further incident. 

Upon arrest officers located some methamphetamine in his possession. 

Eastman was cited and lodged in jail for theft by receiving stolen property and possession of a controlled substance.
