BEATRICE - Future farmers, and those who have made it their lives’ work, are getting further educated on the agriculture industry.

On Tuesday, the Beatrice Chamber of Commerce put on the 11th annual Ag Management Expo. Angie Bruna is an organizer for the event.

“We [the chamber] have an agribusiness committee that meets every other month at 7:00 AM, we plan this event and our Ag barbecue in July,” Bruna said. “Just looking at really serving that Ag sector of our community.”

The event took place at the Academic Success Center on the Beatrice campus of Southeast Community College. It featured, multiple presentations from Ag experts around the region, as well as a speech from keynote speaker Dr. David Kohl, a professor of agriculture and applied economics at Virginia Tech.

Bruna says the importance of the event relates to helping local farmers.

“We really value the Ag industry in our area,” Bruna said. “It’s one of our economic sectors, so this is a way to give back to our community.”

The event has now been going on for over 10 years and Bruna says they though long-term about what information would be presented.

“We need to focus on having educational opportunities so people can learn what the up and coming things are,” Bruna said. “How do the economics impact what you’re doing, what you’re putting into the fields, those kinds of things.”
