LPD: Fatality in single vehicle accident
One person is dead after a car accident in eastern Nebraska.
LINCOLN, Neb. -- One person is dead after a car accident in eastern Nebraska.
Lincoln Police said that crash happened Sunday morning near the intersection of 14th Street and Highway 2.
LPD an Lincoln Fire and Rescue dispatched at 7:00 a.m. and when they arrived, authorities said officers found that a single car was involved in the accident.
Authorities said a car merged into the turn lane to go south onto 14th Street. The vehicle then lost control, left the road and hit a traffic signal support pole and a railway crossing arm.
Officials said the vehicle came to rest in the south lanes of 14th street.
23-year-old Hortencia Hernandez was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Both the south lanes on 14th from Highway 2 to the southbound turn remained closed until 11:45 a.m. while the on-scene investigation was underway.
The investigation is ongoing.
