On Thursday, the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce and Industry, along with members of legislature, set their plans and goals for 2022.
One of the main goals for Bryan Slone, President of the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is to make the Cornhusker state attractive to younger people.
"The real challenge for our communities is growing communities that attract 18-34 year olds," Slone said. "That's what's going to grow our population is really holding our economy back."
The chamber has set forth five major priorities for the upcoming years. Each has the intention to make the state better off not only for 2022, but also for future years.
"Clearly solving the work force issue, dealing with some core infrastructure issues necessary to attract the kinds of jobs and employees we need in our communities," Slone said. "Also driving innovation and empowering our communities so we can become even more attractive to younger people and younger families, and modernizing our tax system."
For Sen. Mike Flood, keeping people in the state is crucial. Flood says he wants those who may lave the Cornhusker state to seek better or different job opportunities, to see the opportunities in Nebraska.
"We have to get really serious about connecting our greatest resource, our people, with the job opportunities that exist, before they even consider going out of state," Flood said. "We need to introduce them to the opportunities that are here."
