Jurgens Named to Rimington Trophy Watch List

Nebraska sophomore center Cameron Jurgens was named Wednesday to the Rimington Trophy Watch List. Named in honor of former Nebraska center and College Football Hall of Fame member Dave Rimington, the award is presented annually to the nation's top center.
Jurgens started all 12 games at center for Nebraska in 2019, and is the anchor of an offensive line that returns all five starters from a year ago. The 6-3, 290-pound Jurgens began his career as a tight end, before shifting to center during a redshirt season in 2018. The Beatrice, Neb., native made history in the 2019 season opener against South Alabama, becoming the first Husker freshman (true or redshirt) to start a game at center since the NCAA restored freshmen eligibility in 1972. Jurgens helped Nebraska rank third in the Big Ten in rushing offense and fifth in total offense.
Jurgens played a key role in Nebraska producing its most total yards in a Big Ten Conference game (690 yards at Illinois), while tying its most points in a Big Ten game (54 at Maryland). Against Illinois, the Huskers totaled 300 yards rushing and 300 yards passing for just the second time in school history en route to gaining the most yards in any conference game since 2007. Nebraska also set a school record for team completion percentage against Indiana (87.0 percent) in 2019.
During the winter, Jurgens joined the Nebraska track and field team for the indoor season. He recorded a personal-best throw of 56-3 in the shot put.
Since its inception, The Rimington Trophy has raised over $4.5 million for the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis. Rimington captured the Outland Trophy in 1981 and 1982 and is the only two-time winner of the award given to the nation's finest interior lineman. Rimington also won the 1982 Lombardi Award. The Rimington Trophy winner is honored each year at a dinner in Lincoln.
