CRETE, NE — Practices are coming to a halt at Doane university.

Doane officials announced today that all extracurricular activities are suspended for the rest of the month.

"Due to an increased threat of COVID-19 spreading among our student body, Doane's President, with the guidance of the university's Health and Wellness Advisory Committee, has temporarily suspended all extracurricular activities,” an athletic department spokesman said.

Doane competes in the Great Plains Athletic Conference in the NAIA. The conference is one of just a handful in the country that is moving forward with fall sports as scheduled.

Doane officials say the school plans on starting the season as scheduled.  The Tigers’ first football game is set for September 12. The volleyball season is supposed to start September 5.
