Karlin, Hanshaw win state titles, Johnson falls in final

Three Beatrice Orangemen competed for state wrestling championships on Saturday in Omaha with two coming home state champions.

BEATRICE, Neb. - Three Beatrice Orangemen competed for state wrestling championships on Saturday in Omaha with two coming home state champions.

Freshman Carson Hanshaw defeated Gavin Ourada of Skutt Catholic 3-0 in the B120 division to become Beatrice's first freshman to win a state crown in school history.

Cole Karlin also took home a state championship in the B126 division with a 16-14 win over Dominic Olson of Waverly. The state title is the first in Karlin's career and his fourth state tournament medal.

Merrick Johnson also wrestled for a state title for the third year in a row, but fell short to Skutt Catholic's Riley Johnson 18-2.
