VALENTINE, Neb. — The Valentine City Council could appoint a temporary member during its meeting this week as one councilman prepares for deployment.

Brad Arnold is among roughly 200 Nebraska National Guard members being sent to Washington, D.C. On Thursday, council members are expected to formally excuse Arnold for his military service and may choose someone to fill his seat while he is away.

The agenda also includes a request from representatives of the American Legion, who are seeking the city’s help with purchasing a new scoreboard for the Legion Field.

In addition, members of the Cherry County Ag Society plan to discuss fireworks and the rifle range.

Council members are also slated to consider approval of Valentine’s One- and Six-Year Road Plan for 2026, along with several other items.
