Meyer accepts Superintendent's role at Columbus Lakeview

SIDNEY – South Elementary Principal Rick Meyer has resigned, and the Sidney School District Board of Education accepted his resignation at its meeting on February 10.

Meyer said the decision is a career move after earning an educational specialist degree in December.

“I just graduated with my Ed. Specialist degree in December. I’ve been keeping an eye out for different jobs, and when the Columbus Lakeview position opened, I applied. It was a really good fit for me and my family, so I’m going to Columbus Lakeview as superintendent. I’ll start in July after my contract ends here in Sidney,” Meyer said.

In his resignation letter, Meyer noted he has been with Sidney Public Schools for 20 years, beginning as a kindergarten teacher, then transitioning to technology before moving into administration. He credited the district’s supportive culture and strong leadership for fostering his professional growth.

Meyer said Columbus Lakeview is similar to Sidney.

“We’re about 50 kids fewer than Sidney is now. It’s currently growing,” Meyer said.

He said he is committed to ensuring a smooth transition and will do whatever he can to support the district during the change. While he never expected Sidney to be his home, he added that the district will always hold a special place in his heart.

Meyer’s wife, Erin Meyer, is the principal at Central Elementary. Their future plans are still being addressed.

“We’re currently working through that right now. Superintendents are usually hired first, and then we kind of have the hierarchy of everybody else, so, still working through that for sure,” he said.
