HEBRON, NE — A school district in southeast Nebraska is taking an additional security step after a threat was reported late last month

Thayer Central Community Schools announced they have contracted with Nesbitt and Associates to provide security on campus for the next "several weeks."

"We wanted to keep you informed of the steps that we are taking moving forward to ensure a safe and secure school environment," the administration said in a letter to students and parents.

According to its website, Nesbitt and Associates is a Lincoln-based company that, "provides security solutions for businesses, educational and financial institutions, healthcare, government and individuals that protect lives, assets, order and public image."

The website also says the company is led by an executive team with over 50 combine years of award-winning experience in law enforcement and public safety. Nesbitt and Associates already works with several districts across the state, whether its providing security, conducting safety audits, or giving presentations on safety-related topics to students.

Thayer Central says an off-duty officer will be present on campus. They will be wearing a blue security guard vest and will be seen moving throughout the building.

The school closed its campus Monday through Wednesday last week in response to social media posts threatening a school shooting. An investigation by the Nebraska State Patrol Tech Crimes Unit found the posts to originate from New Mexico. Local and state authorities concluded the threat was non-credible.
