Thayer Central cancels classes Monday, Tuesday due to threat
THAYER COUNTY - Thayer Central Community Schools did not have classes on Monday, and have cancelled classes Tuesday, out of an abundance of caution due to a threat.
According to a press release, the school is actively working with local law enforcement including the Thayer County Sheriff's Office and the Nebraska State Patrol as they conduct an investigation of the threat to the school, which was received last Friday, January 27th. The district did not provide any details of the threat received in its statement.
NSP remained on campus on Monday to investigate, but the school also notes local law enforcement presence will be more active around the campus area until the issue is resolved.
"Thayer Central Administration and Staff are committed to provide a safe learning environment for our students," the district's administration wrote in the statement, released jointly with the Thayer County Sheriff's Office.
Thayer Central also announced classes will also be cancelled on Tuesday, with no staff needing to report.
In its release, the district said it will not be answering any questions at this time, but will provide any additional information as it becomes available.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Thayer County Sheriff's Office.
The Thayer Central Board of Education released its own statement Monday night. In it, the board said the district's response is according with their policies and emergency operations plan.
"Our board is in complete support of our administration and law enforcement as they continue their investigation," the board's statement reads. "The situation is fluid and a timeline for resolution is currently unknown."
