BEATRICE – Construction on a new segment of recreational trail in Beatrice has shifted closer to Beatrice High School.

When the project is done, the concrete trail will connect the Big Blue Water Park with Hannibal Park.   Concrete is being poured for sections along the north side of East Scott Street, and earthwork was in progress in front of Beatrice High School.  The trail extends south of the Beatrice YMCA, through a part of the Flowing Springs area, then crosses Scott Street near 23rd.   The trail continues to Beatrice High School, where it will cross U.S. 136 at Orange Boulevard, extending north to Hannibal Park.

It will cross Lincoln Street and eventually connect with a trail along the east side of Hannibal, extending past the east side of Christ Community Church.

The two-and-a-half-mile long trail section is being built by Caspers Construction , for $1.34 million.  Estimated completion is mid-September.   While the project is going on, citizens are asked not to use any part of the trail until it’s finished.

A federal surface transportation grant is covering 80-percent of the cost, while the City of Beatrice pays the remaining 20-percent, or about $260,000.
