Update on public projects in Beatrice heard by board
Some work continues through colder weather with planning for projects later in 2026

BEATRICE – Despite a bout with colder weather and some snow over the weekend, some public works projects in Beatrice continue, along with planning for other work this year.
City Wastewater Superintendent and Engineer James Burroughs says a grit removal project has been in progress, with installation of pre-cast walls.
"As they bring them in with a crane, set them in place and weld them in place, we're hoping that by the end of this week, the outwall structure of the building will be complete. That's what they've been trying to get to, in case colder weather comes, they can heat it. But, that project is moving forward and doing really well."
This year, a street reconstruction project will occur on North 7th from Arthur to Monroe. A six-inch water main will be replaced with an eight-inch main along North 7th between Garfield and Grant Streets.
"That will not be in conflict with the Seventh Street concrete paving."
Burroughs says discussions are being held with developers on the Beatrice Senior Commons residential project near the Good Samaritan Center…..the proposed Landmark Snacks expansion in the north industrial park…..and a proposed expansion of the Southeast Community College Ag program.
Underground water reservoirs are being cleaned at 4th and Grant, with the current work focusing on the reservoir on the north side of Grant.
Earthwork has been done at Hannibal Park and city officials will soon take bids for installing a new ball field at the center of the park.
