Seven-year-old boy dies, brother injured after UTV accident in Bennet

BENNET, Neb. - One boy is dead after a UTV accident near Bennett Monday afternoon. 

Authorities responded to the incident just after 4:00 p.m. near South 162nd Street and Bennett Road.

The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office provided an update Tuesday morning, when Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said the seven-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene. LSO says the other injured boy, a nine-year-old brother, suffered a broken leg. LSO said he was driving the UTV at the time of the accident.  

In a social media post, the Bennett-Palmyra school district identified the boy as second-grader Charles Kohl, in a letter to families. 

District OR-1 schools are closed Tuesday and the district’s crisis response team will be available at Bennet Elementary from noon to 3 p.m. 

The Bennett Community Church will also be holding a gathering from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday night
