OSHKOSH, Neb. - A powerful winter storm is set to impact parts of Nebraska and Wyoming through Friday, bringing heavy snowfall, strong winds and dangerous travel conditions.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Dawes and Sioux counties, where 7 to 13 inches of snow is expected through Friday morning. Wind gusts up to 40 mph will create widespread blowing and drifting snow, significantly reducing visibility and making travel treacherous.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Box Butte County, Southern Sioux County and Goshen County from Thursday evening through Friday morning. These areas could see 6 to 11 inches of snow, with gusty winds making road conditions hazardous.

Areas including Garden, Garfield, Wheeler, Arthur, McPherson, Logan and Custer counties are under a Winter Weather Advisory from early Friday morning through Friday evening, with 2 to 5 inches of snow expected and wind gusts up to 30 mph.

The storm is expected to intensify Thursday afternoon and evening, with snowfall becoming heavy at times before tapering off by Friday night. Roadways, especially bridges and overpasses, will likely be slick and hazardous.

Once the storm clears, high winds are expected to return to the region early next week.
