Beatrice Firefighters called to put out pickup fire in north part of city
BEATRICE – Firefighters in Beatrice were summoned to a pickup fire late Saturday afternoon. A fire captain said the driver of the truck had pulled into a convenience store to get fuel and plugged an air compressor into the truck’s cigarette lighter to fill a tire that was low on air.
The captain says an apparent wiring problem cause heat to build up in the dash. The truck had been driven a short distance away from the fuel pumps, and then caught fire on Arthur Street, midway between Sixth and Seventh Streets. Arriving firefighters saw the truck engulfed in flames.
Firefighters extinguished the flames in less than ten minutes. The blaze destroyed the cabin and dash of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado. No one was injured.
The damage was estimated at about $7,000.
