TECUMSEH – Johnson County authorities report the arrest of a suspect in a Tecumseh carjacking on July 1.

A press release from Johnson County Attorney Benjamin Beethe says Del City, Oklahoma, police arrested Danger Cabellero later in the day.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office office responded to the U-Stop in Tecumseh at 6:54 a.m. on a report of an armed robbery.

A man had picked up the suspect near a broken down vehicle east of Tecumseh on Highway 136.

The attorney’s office says the “good Samaritan” gave the man a ride to the gas station where he produced a firearm and stole the vehicle. The suspect threw out the car owner’s cell phone before leaving Tecumseh and fled in an unknown direction.

The broken down vehicle turned out to have been stolen in an alleged armed robbery the night before in Platte City, Mo., according to the release.

On Monday, July 1st, 2024 at approximately 6:54 AM, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office was called regarding an armed robbery that occurred in the parking lot at the U-Stop store in Tecumseh, NE. A man had been picked up by a good Samaritan east of Tecumseh on Hwy #136 where a vehicle was broken down and was given a ride to the Tecumseh U-Stop.

At that time, the man produced a firearm and demanded the vehicle and cell phone from the good Samaritan. The man took the good Samaritan’s car and cell phone, left the scene, dumped the cell phone a short distance away and fled in an unknown direction.

The broken down vehicle where the good Samaritan picked up the man turned out to be stolen in an alleged armed robbery the night before in Platte City, MO. Later on July 1, the good Samaritan’s stolen car was stopped by the Del City, Oklahoma Police Department and the driver was taken into custody. Arrested in the stolen car was Danger Cabellero.

The investigation involving the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol, Nemaha County Sheriff’s Office, Platte County, Missouri Sheriff’s Office, the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department and the Del City, Oklahoma Police Department continues. All suspects are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
