Eugene (Gene) D. Feit, 82 years of age, of Elkhorn, formerly Beatrice passed away at his home on Thursday, May 23, 2024. He was born on September 21, 1941 in Beatrice to Nicholas and Margaret (Allgire) Feit. Gene grew up on a farm south of Beatrice that has now been in the family for 143 years. He graduated from Beatrice High School in 1959. Eugene served his country in the United States Navy from July 1960 to June 1964. While in the Navy, he served on the USS Kearsarge and was a helicopter mechanic and part of the astronaut recovery program. Gene earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Peru State College. He began working at the Beatrice State Development Center (BSDC) and shortly after, married Martha Huff on July 25, 1970 in Fairbury. After children, in 1986, Gene earned his master’s degree in public administration from UNO. He retired in 2000 from the BSDC after 35 years. Gene and Marti moved to Elkhorn to be closer to their children and grandchildren in 2018. Gene was a member of the Jay Husker Auto Club, Rolling Wheels Car Club and several other national car clubs. He had an amazing knowledge for car parts and enjoyed driving and restoring antique cars including his 1955 Pontiac and 1956 Studebaker. Gene was Mr. Fix It and was always there to lend a hand to others.  He enjoyed  travelling and spending time with his grandchildren. 

Gene is survived by his wife, Marti; son, Michael Feit and wife Stacy of Omaha, Mary Beth McKinney and husband Troy of Bennington; grandchildren, Landon and Addie McKinney; brother, Lawayne Feit and wife Barb of Omaha; brother-in-law, Martin Huff and wife Lisa of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Monica Sloan of Kansas City, Missouri; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and many other dear family members.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, May 31, 2024 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice with Pastor David Bigley officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Blue Springs Cemetery north of Blue Springs. Visitation with family present will be for one hour preceding services at the mortuary on Friday.
