Mitchell joining South Platte Valley Conference

The South Platte Valley Association (SPVA) Conference announced on May 17 that Mitchell High School will be joining the conference beginning in the 2025-2026 school year.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - The South Platte Valley Association (SPVA) Conference announced on May 17 that Mitchell High School will be joining the conference beginning in the 2025-2026 school year.

Jordan Cudney, President of the SPVA Conference, expressed their excitement about adding Michell to the conference.

“By adding Mitchell public schools, we know were adding a quality district, school, and system into our conference that will elevate and push other schools to be better as well,” said Cudney.

The SPVA is known for its strong tradition of competitive sports and academic excellence comprising several schools from the South Platte Valley Region. The Mitchell school board unanimously voted to join the conference. They join with two other Panhandle schools Kimball and Bridgeport now in the SPVA conference.

The conference is planning on adding an eighth school by the start of the 2026-2027 school year.

“It’s important to stay viable, when you lose a conference member, like we did this past year,” said Cudney. “You don’t want to decrease, you want to stay strong. So we did have to look out side the box a little bit to see what kind of schools met our criteria and geographic footprint and consider who those schools might be.”
