JEFFERSON COUNTY, Neb. -- Jefferson County is looking for additional funding to complete the PWF road project.

Jefferson County Commissioner Mark Schoenrock said the county completed applications with Congressman Adrian Smith and Senator Deb Fischer for an additional $1.758 million through the Community Project Funding Grant.

The county has already received $8.5 million for the road project but is looking for the additional money to raise the funds to over $10 million.

“I am still very grateful for the $8.5 million,” Schoenrock said. “That would make it a reality. It would be nice if we could get that extra $1.785 million. That would lessen our county bond by a considerable amount.”

Schoenrock said the funds would lessen the amount of taxes payed by taxpayers for the road project.

“If we didn’t try, we would know what the answer would be,” Schoenrock said. “Let’s try to get in there and try to get this because that would save Jefferson County taxpayers almost $2 million.”

Schoenrock said there is no timeline for when the county will hear back about the grant.
