BEATRICE – The City of Beatrice expects to learn soon how much it will cost for an intersection modification near the new Beatrice prekindergarten and elementary grade school.

"33rd and Lincoln Street is currently out for bid. We're looking to have bids back and hopefully bring them to you at your next board meeting, for a recommendation to the mayor and city council."  That message was given to the Board of Public Works by General Manager, Tobias Tempelmeyer, Wednesday.

Recently, a new 12-inch diameter water main was installed by Beatrice Water Department crews in that area and is just about ready to be put into service. There are connections to be made to three homes in that area.

Street projects won’t line up exactly with the opening of the new school in August…but Street Superintendent Jason Moore says the city will do it’s best to keep things in good shape on 33rd Street.

"We are going to put a skin patch over the top of it with our asphalt this year, We're going to glue it together as best we can. We're going to armor coat it, down to the entrance to the cemetery. We will do everything we can to make sure that 33rd stays together, with the increased traffic."

Meanwhile, street crews have been doing crack sealing and concrete work at various locations in the city…aided by some ideal weather. Moore says they are preparing for a busy season of armor coating and onyx sealing of street sections in the city.
