BEATRICE – It’s a problem all-too-familiar to Nebraska State Patrol officers. Motorists speeding…but not just a few miles-per-hour over the limit…but instead traveling 90-miles-per-hour or higher.

It’s not limited to just interstates or major four-lanes, though. Gage County Sheriff Millard Gustafson says a radar speed trailer placed in the county, recently pointed that out.

"We've had complaints on Highway Four...west. So, we set up a speed trailer. The speed was pretty good on most of them, except one went through at 149 (miles-per-hour). And then we just had one went through....in the middle of the night...through Cortland, at 155 (miles-per-hour).

Gustafson says both of the high-speed drivers were clocked with the radar trailer late at night or early in the morning. No word on what makes of vehicles were involved, or whether it may have been a speeding motorcycle.

"That's a record. I've had up towards 120 (miles-per-hour)....but I've never had anything over that."

In recent months, Nebraska State Patrol Troopers have been involved in several high-speed pursuit incidents…some that stretched over multiple counties.
