HASTINGS, Neb. — The Beatrice baseball team braved cold and windy conditions to hold off Hastings 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at Duncan Field.

The Orangemen (3-1) drew two walks to open the game. Noah Jobman knocked those runners home a couple batters later to take a 2-0 lead that Beatrice never surrendered.

In the third inning, Beatrice’s John Friesen doubled and stole second base. Jobman notched his third RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0. The Orangemen took advantage of an error to push across another run in the fifth inning.

The Tigers (0-4) finally chased Beatrice starter Gage Wolter from the game in the fifth. Hastings worked three walks and scratched across three runs to make it a one-run game.

Hastings got runners in scoring position in each of the final two innings but couldn’t get the critical hit against reliever Austin Baldwin. Beatrice limited Hastings to just two hits, which were both infield singles.

The combined record of the Tigers’ four opponents is 18-3.
