Panthers hold out after 12 innings in double-header
NORFOLK, Neb. -- Most of you were probably in bed by the time this game ended. The 12 inning-thriller bumped Norfolk up to their third win of the season.
The Lincoln North Star Navigators stopped by Norfolk Veteran's Memorial Field for a double-header hosted by the Panthers on Thursday night.
In the first game, the Panthers trailed by a run for most of the game. It wasn't until the bottom of the seventh inning when Norfolk was able to walk it off and win the first game 3-2.
In the second game, televised by NCN, the game started out in similar style to its predecessor.
By the end of the first inning, both teams were tied one run a piece. It wasn't until the third inning where things picked up for the Navigators.
After a couple of botched throws, Norfolk found themselves down 5-2 in the top of the third inning.
The bottom of the third, they closed the gap by a run.
The final score was 6-6. In what was a neck in neck finish in regulation, we went into extra innings.
Not one, not two, but five extra innings. It wasn't until the 12th inning until a run was scored after regulation.
Norfolk enters the bottom of the 12th inning being down by a run, and just like in similar fashion...
They walked it off. Final score: 8-7.
The Panthers took both games Thursday night as they prepare Papillion-LaVista on March 23.
