Dominant 4th quarter lifts Omaha Skutt past Crete 55-47
LINCOLN, Neb. — Omaha Skutt used a dominant fourth quarter to upset Crete 55-47 and earn a spot in the Class B state title game.
The previously undefeated #1 Cardinals took a 43-37 lead to the fourth quarter. Then, the #4 Skyhawks tightened up their defense and held Crete without a field goal for the first six minutes of the final period. They grabbed the momentum with a breakaway dunk by Brock Scholl and kept the pressure on to get the eight-point win. Skutt had a decided edge in rebounding, taking advantage of the absence of Crete center Ben Ehlers, who suffered a knee injury late in the season and left the team’s quarterfinals game after trying to play.
The Skyhawks will play in the championship game for the third year in a row and are aiming to win consecutive titles for the second time in school history.
