FAIRBURY, Neb. -- Deputies within the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office used a search warrant in Fairbury on Friday leading to the discovery of numerous controlled substances.

A deputy with the Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop earlier on March 1 near the intersections of 8th St. and B St. in Fairbury, according to Sheriff Nick Georgi. 

Officials said 46-year-old Cynthia Rice, of Fairbury, was arrested and transported to the Jefferson County Jail after the traffic stop for possession of controlled substance and unlawful acts relating to drugs. 

The investigation reportedly led to a search at 728 A St. in which numerous items of contraband and controlled substances were found inside the residence belonging to Rice.

According to authorities, Rice was also arrested and charged with additional charges of possession of controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

The case remains under investigation at this time.
