FAIRBURY, Neb. -- The American Red Cross came to Fairbury with residents coming out to donate their blood.

Recently, Red Cross has been in need of blood. According to Jeff Arazi, a phlebotomist, they are in dire need.

“It has recently been about a month that we have been in such dire straits but it’s always a constant need,” Arazi said. “We are always in need of blood to go to hospitals and save people.”

Red Cross separates the blood into three types, red blood cells that go to accident trauma victims, platelets that help cancer patients, and plasma which go to burned victims.

Arazi said that he donated his blood and has seen it go to different states to help different people save their life.

“I have donated myself,” Arazi said. “I have seen my blood go to Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and even here in Nebraska. And every one of those people is someone that I can save and helped save their life.”

Arazi said anybody can come down to donate and it can help anybody in need.

“Anybody that’s able to come down and donate,” Arazi said. “Somebody will be able to use it.”

The next date the American Red Cross will be in Fairbury is April 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
