BEATRICE – A tentative summer date has been set for the laying of a cornerstone at the new Beatrice Pre-K through Fifth Grade school.
Superintendent Jason Alexander says the district has been working with the local Masonic Lodge on a ceremony, which would be held Saturday, July 27th, at one p.m.

"Basically, the cornerstone is a symbol of the Masons of the State of Nebraska and the hands that do the work on all of the buildings across the state. They request being able to put the cornerstone in. There's one at the high school."

The Beatrice Board of Education gave the go-ahead for the planning of the event to be held in late July…about a month before the new building is to be opened. The cornerstone would be located near a north entrance to the building, next to the school’s gymnasium entrance.

In other action Monday night, the Beatrice School Board approved the new school calendar for 2024 to 2025.
