Ruth Louise (Roberts) Sage, 88, of Beatrice, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2024, at Gold Crest Retirement Center in Adams.  She was born on February 16, 1935, in Des Moines, IA to Gerald and Marguerite (Dale) Roberts and raised by her father and stepmother, Agnes.  After graduating from East High School in Des Moines she was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in the area sales office.  She married James J. Sage, her high school sweetheart, on May 15, 1954.  They lived in Des Moines for four years, then moved to Ankeny, IA where they raised their two sons, Steven James and Bradley Gerald.  They moved to Grand Island, NE in 1983 and to Beatrice in 1993.  Ruth enjoyed raising her family and also maintained a career with clerical work, favoring legal secretary.  She was a former member of Polk County Legal Secretaries in Des Moines.  The family was always active in their church.  Ruth sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, worked with the youth group and enjoyed Bible Study.  She was an avid bridge player, reader and loved music.  She was a former member of the Red Hat Society and long-time member of Christ Community Church of Beatrice.


Survivors include her two sons, Steven (Adam Black) of Toronto, Canada, and Bradley of Sprague, NE; five grandchildren, Nikolas (Rachelle) Sage, Nikole Sage, Colten Sage, Kirsten Sage and Garrett Sage; two sisters-in-law, Margherita (Alan) Atwell of Clear Lake, IA and Sandra Davis of Ventura Heights, IA; half-sister, Carol McElvogue of Maryland; nieces and nephew.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim (2016); parents, Gerald Roberts and Marguerite Dale Avrit; step-mother, Agnes Roberts; sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Jim Cox; brother-in-law, Jack Davis.


Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice with Pastor Dan Martin officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice.  The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 14 from noon until 8:00 P.M. The family will greet friends from 5:30 P.M. until 6:30 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Gold Crest Retirement Center.  Arrangements entrusted to Fox Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Beatrice.
