It is with profound sadness yet deep gratitude for his short but impactful life that we remember Madden Deondre Mays, or as we affectionately called him, little "Maddog." Born in Lincoln, NE on January 26, 2024, and departed on February 1, 2024, Madden's brief presence in our lives shone a spotlight on the incredible resilience and spirited nature of his soul. Though his stay on earth was brief, Madden's impact will be eternally etched in our hearts.

Madden, a spirited little warrior, was a beacon of strength and courage. Despite his tender age, he inspired all who were privileged to know him. In his six days with us, his personality shone brightly, impressing us with his fighting spirit and melting our hearts like butter. Madden was placed here to do many things, but one thing he did was inspire people, especially his mom and dad to change and be better people all around. He made us soft, and that was a task only he could do, nobody else. Indeed, Madden was our little angel in disguise, teaching us about the powerful, transformative love of family.

Madden leaves behind a loving family, including his parents, Jaytion Mays and Tianna Hausman; grandparents, Jessica Hausman, Mahmoud Al-Makeki, Lawanda Mays, Leann Umphenour, Kim Umphenour, Joyce Shepherd, and JW Shepherd. He will also be remembered by his aunts and uncles, Tavia Hausman, Rhaland Mays, Marcel Devers, Markel Devers, Tierra Smith, Mark Umphenour, Nick Umphenour, William Umphenour, Danielle Brazzle, and a host of cousins. Madden now rests with his great aunt, Colleen Siebe; uncle, Donald Mays; great-grandmother, Zeola Mays; and great-grandparents, Leander and Angeline Gronenthal.

In the words of the blessed Saint Francis de Sales, "We shall steer safely through every storm, so long as our heart is right, our intention fervent, our courage steadfast, and our trust fixed on God." Madden, our courageous little Maddog, exemplified these words in his brief but profound journey with us. We invite you to share your memories, love, and photos of Madden on his memorial page. May his spirit continue to inspire and guide us all.

These services have been entrusted to the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice.
