One man died in a single-vehicle accident in Fairbury

FAIRBURY, Neb. -- A man died Monday due to a crash on Highway 8 in Jefferson County, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.
The Jefferson County 911 Center got a call in reference for a single-vehicle accident near the address of 57005 Highway 8.
When deputies arrived, they found that a 2016 Jeep Wrangler had appeared to have rolled into a ditch and landed on the Union Pacific Railroad right away crossing. The man in the vehicle was 50-year-old Wade Lewis of Fairbury.
An investigation by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department determined that Lewis was traveling west on Highway 8 towards Fairbury when he crossed over the eastbound lane and went into a south ditch.
The vehicle collided with an embankment near the railroad right away crossing and rolled where it came to rest on the railroad right away.
Lewis was transported by a Jefferson County ambulance to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said that seatbelts were not in use.
