New U-Stop in east Beatrice on the verge of opening
BEATRICE – The City of Beatrice is about to get its first convenience and fueling station at the east edge of the city. A U-Stop store being built by Todd and Soni Hydo has some remaining interior work to be done…with plans to open this month.
Chase Buettner will be the Manager of the business, a nearly four-thousand square foot store modeled after a U-Stop in Denton. The store Monday night received a favorable recommendation from Beatrice officials on its liquor license application.
The main entrance will be off Scott Street on the south side, but the hope is to eventually have access directly off U.S. Highway 136 on the north.
The store is next to Beatrice High School…and not far from a new Pre-K to Fifth Grade School being constructed. One hope is that the store may be the trigger for future development nearby.
The store’s four fuel islands will be supplied by Whitehead Oil Company, though Buettner says the business will be locally owned and operated.
The U-Stop, which plans to employ about twenty people….will have open hours from five a.m. to eleven p.m., initially.
