Firefighters sent to reported battery fire, at Exmark Manufacturing

BEATRICE – Beatrice Firefighters were dispatched to a manufacturing plant at mid-day Thursday…..a call initially described as a fire in a lithium-ion battery.
Firefighters were sent to Exmark Manufacturing in the Gage County Industrial Park at 12.51 p.m. Captain Jeremy Seggerman says staff reported a small fire in the battery…and the fire was nearly out when firefighters arrived as employees used an extinguisher and fire blanket to snuff out flame.
Seggerman says the problem turned out to be a electrical short. Firefighters removed about ten lithium-ion batteries, soaking them down. The only damage was some plastic casing on a battery and there was no damage to any plant building. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters left the scene after about forty minutes.
