FAIRBURY, Neb. -- The Fairbury City Museum is adding a replica of a historic civil war cannon to the town.

The cannon, which was in the city park until World War II when it was melted down during a scrap drive, will be brought back as a replica.

The cannon will be placed in between the baseball field and the Veterans Memorial at the city park.

The city council also approved the area from the maintenance road to 8th St. to be called Veterans Park.

Mick Suey, the President of the Fairbury Museum Board, believes that this could be a great addition to the city park.

“It is another draw to bring people in,” Suey said. “We have a beautiful city park. The city has put in a lot of time and effort into making it better. This is just a contribution that hopefully the museum can make to bring in even more people.”

Suey said, if everything goes to plan, the addition should be complete by Veterans Weekend 2024.
