One dead after car accident involving bike in Lincoln

A crash that involved a bike and a car led to the death of one person in Lincoln.

LINCOLN, Neb. -- A crash that involved a bike and a car led to the death of one person in Lincoln.

The Lincoln Police Department said officers were sent to the intersection of N 84th St. and Market Dr. at 4:10 p.m. on Thursday for an accident.

Officers said a vehicle and a bicycle had collided in the intersection. The bike rider, a man from Lincoln, was reportedly taken to a nearby hospital for his injuries while the driver of the vehicle, a man from Lincoln, stayed at the scene.

According to authorities, the bike operator, 77-year-old John Mayfield of Lincoln, later died at the hospital.

There have been no citations issued. 

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information can contact LPD or Crime Stoppers.
