LINCOLN, Neb. -- Protestors gathered outside the capitol on Saturday to rally and support Nebraska public schools.

The protest comes after Nebraska moved slower to providing public funds to private schools as a bill, Opportunity Scholarships Act, is given approval.

The bill will provide a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for money donated to organizations that provide scholarships for students attending private and parochial schools.

The is part of Gov. Jim Pillen's education proposals and is estimated to provide $25 million a year in tax credits, which could increase up to $100 million a year.

Nebraska and North Dakota are the only states not to offer some form of state funding of private schools. Opponents argue this may divert money away from public education.
