Fairbury Rural FD marks Fire Prevention Week with rides to school

FAIRBURY, NE — October 9-15 is Fire Prevention Week across the U.S. and one town in southeast Nebraska has a unique way to celebrate.
The Fairbury Rural Fire Department is providing rides to school this week.
Some lucky students in the district are being picked up and taken to school by members of the volunteer fire department and get to ride fire trucks to school. The department announces the arrival with a flash of the lights and sirens.
It's a unique way to spread awareness of Fire Prevention Week while also connecting with community.
Fairbury's Rural Fire Department will also host an open house on Sunday, Oct. 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The day will include a free will donation pancake feed as well as games, fire truck rides and fire safety lessons.
