Beatrice finds trouble with bats, falls to Crete 3-1
CRETE - Beatrice's seven game win streak came to an end Thursday night.
In a battle of two southeast Nebraska softball squads, it was Crete coming out on top 3-1. Beatrice mustered just four hits in the loss, three between Avery Barnard and Riley Schwisow combined. Beatrice's lone run came from an RBI single from Avery Barnard in the fifth.
Crete's primary starting pitcher in Mack Steuer took the mound and held the Lady O to just four hits while striking out six. Schwisow was in the circle for Beatrice, allowing three runs, five hits, and striking out nine.
The big blow in the game came in the bottom of the fifth when Marley Stones drove in two with an RBI single set up by a lead off walk. The score would remain the same the rest of the way.
With the loss, Beatrice loses for the first time since Aug. 30, ending a seven game win. The Lady O are now 14-4 on the year. Crete improves to 11-7 with the win.
Beatrice returns to action next Tuesday at home against Platteview. The game can be heard on 94.7 FM/1450 AM KWBE.
