WILBER, NE — In a game that came down to the final minute, the Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines took down the Fillmore Central Panthers 28-21 Friday night.

Fillmore Central led 7-0 after the first quarter with a 54-yard strike from Treven Stassnies to Luke Kimbrough being the only score in the opening 12 minutes.

Wilber-Clatonia, however, took up half of that first quarter and some of the second en route to an 8+ minute, 80 yard touchdown drive capped off by Carter Skleba hitting Jack Zimmerman for a touchdown pass, making the score 7-6.

Later in the second quarter, Skleba threw his second TD pass, this time to Tyson Kreshel, to make it 14-7 at the half.

After slow starts to the second half for each team, Fillmore Central put together a drive, capped off by a Stassnies QB sneak for a touchdown. That brought things back to a one-point game at 14-13. In the closing seconds of the third, however, the Wolverines struck back with a rushing score from Kreshel to make it 21-13 heading to the fourth.

Early in the fourth quarter, Stassnies connected again with Kimbrough for a score and a two-point conversion tied it at 21 with nine minutes left.

Wilber-Clatonia fumbled the ball away on the first play of its next drive, setting up the Panthers at the Wolverines 19-yard-line in a tie game. Wilber-Clatonia's defense came up big though, forcing a three and out by Fillmore Central.

The Panthers sent out the field goal team to break the tie. The Wolverines blocked the kick and returned it to the Fillmore Central 30-yard-line.

Skleba and the Wolverines offense would take their second chance and score the eventual game-winning touchdown with five minutes left.

Fillmore Central eventually made it into the red zone on its next drive, but failed to covert a fourth down with about 1:30 left as the Wolverines held on for the win.

Skleba finished 8-16 for 164 yards and two touchdowns passing. He also rushed for 57 yards and a score for Wilber-Clatonia.

Kreshel ran for 28 yards and a score on nine carries. He also caught one pass — a 26-yard touchdown. Elsewhere for the Wolverines, Oscar Ortiz ran it 12 times for 65 yards. Cash Keslar caught six passes for 112 yards.

For Fillmore Central, Stassnies completed 8 of 13 passes for 162 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also ran for a score.

Keegan Theobald rushed it 13 times for 101 yards. Kimbrough caught six passes for 122 yards and two scores for the Panthers.

Next week, Wilber-Clatonia (3-1) travels to Lincoln Lutheran. Fillmore Central (3-1) hosts Fairbury in week five.
