FAIRBURY, Neb. - There was a fire at a residence on 4th and H Streets just outside of downtown Fairbury early Thursday morning. The home and garage withstood serious damage, but no injuries were reported.

According to information shared by the Fairbury Rural Fire Department on Thursday afternoon, at 4:15 a.m. Thursday, Jefferson County dispatch received a call stating a garage was on fire. Fire personnel from Fairbury and Jansen reached the scene by 4:30, and found that the garage was completely inflamed, and the fire had begun to spread to the back side of the house.

All residents had evacuated from the house by the time first responders arrived. The joint fire crews contained the fire to two rooms in the house and stopped it from spreading further.

"Fire personnel made entry into the house and got the fire stopped before it moved throughout the house," assistant fire chief Brett Rogers said in the release. "The fire was contained to two rooms in the house. The fire was knocked down and under control by approximately 5 a.m."

The Nebraska State Fire Marshall assisted with the investigation, and, as of Thursday afternoon, the cause of the fire was listed as undetermined and actively under investigation.

Between the combined crews from Jansen and Fairbury, a total of 15 fire personnel and five fire apparatus were tasked with resolving the issue. There were no injuries reported to either residents or rescue personnel, who were formally released from the scene at 8:43 a.m. Thursday.
