LINCOLN, Neb. -- A man was cited by Lincoln Police Department after a handgun was found in the vehicle he was driving.

LPD said the Gang Unit Investigators were traveling in the area of 21st and K Street on Tuesday around 12:30 p.m. when they saw 23-year-old Stephan Dennis operating a motor vehicle.

Investigators said they knew that Dennis' license was suspended at the moment and called for help from a marked patrol unit who performed a traffic stop on Dennis.

According to authorities, the investigators did an inventory search of the vehicle before it was towed away. They reportedly found a loaded Smith & Wesson .40cal handgun on the passenger floorboard.

Officials said Dennis was cited for possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, driving during suspension, no valid registration, no insurance and possession of marijuana less than an ounce.
