Wheat Variety Tour June 9th Near Fairbury

FAIRBURY - The University of Nebraska-Lincoln winter wheat variety tour for Southeast Nebraska is scheduled for Thursday, June 9th north of Fairbury. The tour will provide an opportunity for farmers and others to learn more about new winter wheat varieties and other topics relevant to wheat production.
The event, sponsored by Nebraska Extension, will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Mark Knobel farm northwest of Fairbury. Dr. Nathan Mueller, who is an Extension Educator for Saline, Jefferson, and Gage Counties says this event is open to everyone.
"It's open to the public, so if you're a farmer, an agronomist, or crop consultant you are free to come. Essentially, we have 35 varieties in the plot that are either released or experimental wheat varieties from seven companies. Actually, if you counted, we have replication, it's not just side by side. It's a small plot with 5 replications each, so we have 180 plots out at Mark Knoble's field this year."
Attendees to the event can expect to learn more about testing programs, experimental varieties, disease management, and winter wheat management suggestions for the area. A meal and refreshments will be served following the tour. Registration is requested for meal planning purposes by calling 402-821-2151 or online at https://croptechcafe.org/wheat-variety-tour
The Fairbury tour is just one of eight wheat variety tours being put on by the Nebraska Extension across the state.
