LFR: Dog dies in apartment fire in northeast Lincoln

Fire officials said a dog was killed in an apartment fire in Lincoln.

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Fire officials said a dog was killed in an apartment fire in Lincoln.

Lincoln Fire and Rescue was called to the area of 52nd Street and Leighton Avenue early Wednesday morning.

On arrival, crews said one of the upstairs apartments was in flames and saw an officer helping someone out of the building.

Authorities said a dog was found dead in the apartment but a second dog was able to escape. 

One person was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Damage is estimated to be around $22,000. 

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
